Misti Norton, Ph.D., DBSM
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Norton is an Alabama native who completed her Ph.D. from The University of Alabama in 2010. She completed specialized training in behavioral sleep medicine after graduate school and achieved Diplomate of Behavioral Sleep Medicine (DBSM) status in 2024. She is certified in both individual and group Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and serves as a national trainer to help other therapists learn to provide CBT-I. She is also certified in CBT for Nightmares and CPAP Adherence coaching. In addition to helping people sleep better, she specializes in evidence-based treatment of anxiety disorders, OCD, and PTSD, with extensive training and experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. She is a member of the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine and is listed as a certified insomnia treatment provider on the International Directory of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia providers. She is a member of the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine and the International OCD Foundation, as well as the Alabama Psychological Association, where she serves as the Communications Chair. As a lifelong Alabama resident, she is committed to increasing access to quality mental health care in her home state. She is passionate about mentoring the next generation of psychologists and has trained multiple psychology interns and practicum students. She also serves on Graduate Advisory Committees for UAB clinical psychology doctoral students.
She became a runner during the COVID-19 pandemic and has completed 5 half-marathons and hopes to do a full marathon by the time she turns 50! She is also passionate about travel and enjoys exploring any new destination, whether it’s seeing a Broadway play in New York City, making corncob dolls at a prairie museum in South Dakota, or walking through a medieval castle in Scotland. One of her favorite experiences was running a destination half-marathon in Maine for her 40th birthday. If she were not a psychologist, she would be a librarian as she loves to read and loves to help people find books that they will enjoy. Her favorite genre is historical fiction. She and her husband have 10-year-old twins and an English Springer Spaniel named Graham who frequently appears on Upward social media.
