Insomnia

Insomia is a sleep disorder characterized by difficulty falling asleep and/or staying asleep with effects felt during the daytime (e.g., daytime fatigue, difficulty focusing, grouchiness). Extending far past "sleep hygiene" techniques, Upward's psychologists approach insomnia using specialized techniques to address the root of your sleep concerns and to successfully guide you through sleep efficiency training to address the problem for good.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

OCD is a mental health condition marked by persistent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions) that individuals feel driven to perform. The effects of OCD can significantly impair daily functioning and lead to heightened anxiety and distress. Beyond general coping strategies, our psychologists utilize exposure and response prevention (ERP), a specialized therapeutic technique designed to help you confront your fears gradually while resisting the urge to engage in compulsive behaviors. This evidence-based approach systematically reduces anxiety and helps you regain control over your life, addressing the core issues of OCD effectively.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

PTSD is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, leading to symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, and uncontrollable thoughts about the event. These symptoms can disrupt daily life and hinder emotional well-being. Upward approaches PTSD from a recovery-based standpoint: you don't just need support and coping skills--you need and deserve to recover. Our psychologists employ evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). These specialized techniques focus on helping you process the trauma and reduce distressing symptoms, empowering you to reclaim your life and find peace following trauma.

Panic Attacks/Panic Disorder

Panic Disorder is a mental health condition characterized by recurrent and unexpected panic attacks, which are sudden surges of intense fear or discomfort that trigger various physical and emotional symptoms, such as rapid heart rate, sweating, and feelings of impending doom. These episodes can lead to significant avoidance behaviors and impact daily functioning. Our goal is not to teach you to avoid situations associated with panic. Our goal is to help you overcome Panic Disorder once and for all. To achieve this, our psychologists utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Panic, incorporating graded exposure techniques to effectively address panic disorder. CBT helps you identify and challenge negative thought patterns associated with panic, while graded exposure safely and systematically exposes you to feared situations in a controlled manner, allowing you to build confidence and reduce anxiety over time. Together, these approaches empower you to regain control and overcome the limitations imposed by panic disorder.

Anxiety

Anxiety is a common mental health condition characterized by excessive worry, fear, and apprehension that can interfere with daily functioning. Symptoms may include restlessness, difficulty concentrating, and physical manifestations such as tension and rapid heartbeat. To effectively address anxiety, our psychologists utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety, which focuses on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns that contribute to anxious feelings. Through structured techniques, we help you develop coping strategies and resilience, empowering you to navigate anxiety with greater ease and confidence.

Phobia

Phobia is an intense, irrational fear of specific objects, situations, or activities that can provoke significant anxiety and avoidance behaviors. This overwhelming fear can disrupt daily life and limit opportunities for engagement. Our psychologists employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for phobia, which incorporates exposure and response prevention techniques to gradually confront feared stimuli in a safe and controlled environment. This structured approach helps you desensitize to the phobia, reduce avoidance behaviors, and regain control over your responses, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling life.

Depression

Depression is a mood disorder characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest or pleasure in daily activities. These symptoms can significantly affect relationships, work, and overall quality of life. Our psychologists utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for depression, along with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Depression (ACT-D) and Interpersonal Therapy for Depression (IPT-D). These evidence-based approaches focus on addressing negative thought patterns, fostering acceptance of difficult emotions, and improving interpersonal relationships, empowering you to rebuild a meaningful life filled with hope and purpose.

Tourette's and Tic Disorders

Tourette's and tic disorders are neurological conditions characterized by involuntary movements and vocalizations known as tics. These can range from simple motor tics to complex movements and vocal tics, often leading to social challenges and emotional distress. Our psychologists specialize in Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT), an evidence-based treatment that focuses on teaching self-awareness and self-control over tics, as well as developing coping strategies to manage the condition effectively. This approach helps individuals reduce tic severity and improve their quality of life.

Therapy for Neurodivergent Adults

Neurodivergent adults often experience unique challenges and strengths related to conditions such as autism and ADHD. Our therapy for neurodivergent individuals utilizes evidence-based techniques tailored to meet their specific needs, ensuring that treatment is both effective and affirming. With extensive experience working with neurodivergent clients, our neurodiversity-affirming approach emphasizes individualized goals that prioritize intentional authenticity, executive functioning skills, emotional regulation, peace, goal achievement, and alignment with each person’s values. We strive to create a supportive environment that celebrates neurodiversity, minimizes masking, and empowers our clients as they create fulfilling lives.

By focusing on the underlying causes of insomnia, CBT-I empowers individuals to achieve restful and restorative sleep, ultimately improving their overall well-being and daily functioning.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety is a structured therapeutic approach that helps individuals identify and modify negative thought patterns and behaviors contributing to anxiety. By teaching practical coping skills and problem-solving strategies, our psychologists enable clients to confront their fears and reduce anxiety levels. This technique is particularly effective in fostering resilience and helping individuals regain confidence in their ability to manage anxiety.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for Phobia

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a specialized CBT technique designed to treat phobias by gradually exposing individuals to their feared objects or situations while teaching them how to resist the urge to engage in avoidance behaviors. Our psychologists guide clients through this process in a safe and controlled environment, helping them desensitize to their fears. This evidence-based approach effectively reduces anxiety and empowers clients to regain control over their lives.

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a structured, evidence-based treatment specifically designed for individuals with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This therapeutic approach focuses on helping clients process and reframe the traumatic memories that contribute to their distress. By challenging unhelpful beliefs and fostering a deeper understanding of the trauma, our psychologists support clients in reducing symptoms and reclaiming their lives.

Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD

Prolonged Exposure (PE) is a therapeutic technique that helps individuals with PTSD confront and process traumatic memories through gradual and repeated exposure to the trauma-related cues. Our psychologists utilize PE to teach clients how to approach their fears, allowing them to experience a reduction in distress over time. This evidence-based method fosters emotional processing and helps individuals regain a sense of safety and control.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for PTSD

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialized therapy used to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. Through guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, clients are assisted in reprocessing traumatic memories, which can lead to a reduction in distressing symptoms. Our psychologists integrate EMDR into treatment plans for PTSD, empowering clients to move forward and find peace after trauma.

Written Exposure Therapy (WET)

Written Exposure Therapy (WET) is a therapeutic approach that helps individuals process traumatic memories through structured writing exercises. Our psychologists use WET to guide clients in expressing their thoughts and feelings about their trauma, which promotes emotional processing and reduces distress. This evidence-based method empowers individuals to confront their experiences, fostering healing and a greater sense of control over their narratives.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Nightmares (CBT-Nightmares)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Nightmares (CBT-Nightmares) is a targeted intervention that helps individuals manage distressing nightmares. Our psychologists utilize CBT-Nightmares to assist clients in understanding and challenging negative beliefs related to their nightmares, reducing anxiety and improving sleep quality. This evidence-based approach empowers individuals to take control of their nighttime experiences through cognitive restructuring and imagery rehearsal techniques.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Panic Disorder

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Panic Disorder is a targeted approach that focuses on identifying and challenging the negative thought patterns associated with panic attacks. Our psychologists incorporate graded exposure techniques to help clients gradually confront feared situations in a controlled manner.
