We operate a little differently than the traditional model. Rather than pay-as-you-go, open-ended treatment arrangements with our clients, we structure our treatment in Targeted Plans of Care. This approach sets our clients up for the most effective outcome possible. Here is how our clients progress through care at Upward:
First, *all clients complete a standard 90-minute, comprehensive intake appointment. During this appointment, we collect initial assessments, conduct an intake interview, evaluate the client, make a diagnosis, and work together to make a treatment plan.
Next, clients select a Targeted Plan of Care. These plans are focused on what symptoms are bringing you to treatment; for example, we offer Targeted Plans of Care for insomnia, depression, and anxiety. Clients work together with their provider to choose and personalize their Targeted Plan of Care. Plans are purchased and scheduled upfront. Why do we do this? First, it removes the repeated distraction of a financial transaction at the beginning or end of each session. Second, when clients invest upfront in their care, they are much more likely to stay motivated throughout the course of care, which leads to better outcomes.
Although we offer individual sessions, at Upward, we focus on group class sessions whenever possible. Why? First, it allows us to offer care to more clients sooner. National wait times for care are at an all-time high and we want to help as many clients as we possibly can as soon as we possibly can. Second, research has shown that for many conditions, outcomes for clients in group sessions are equivalent to outcomes for clients in individual sessions. Finally, offering care in groups allows us to keep pricing lower for our clients. We allow a maximum class size of 10 clients per group.
